Analysts are sounding a warning – it is possible that drivers could be paying $4.00 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline later this year.

So, what simple things can you do to save money on the road?

First, keep your windows closed when driving on the highway. For many motorists, this probably is not a problem when it is raining or cold outside, but it can make a big difference even on those hot summer days. Open windows can reduce your gas mileageby as much as 10 percent.

Second – and this is a no-brainer – try to drive less. Combine errands into single trips. Carpool with friends and family members. Before you leave, plot out the shortest route with a mapping website. While it may sound obvious, these steps are often overlooked.
