Our thoughts and prayers go out to the passengers and the families of those on the derailed Amtrak.
According to a CNN report the Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 188 was traveling from Washington to New York carrying 238 passengers and five crew members when it derailed about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia.
“It is an absolute, disastrous mess,” Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said of the crash site. “I’ve never seen anything like this in my life.”
Passengers of the crash have released their stories as well, many of them saying everything seemed normal right up until the moment of impact.
“We do not know what happened here. We do not know why it happened,” Nutter said.
There have now been 6 confirmed deaths and at least 150 reported injuries as a result of this derailment of all 7 cars and the train’s engine.
Officials are still on the scene investigating the cause of the accident, there is no evidence of impact with another train or this being an act of terrorism as of now.
